Some foundations are rectangles. This one was a topographic exercise: multiple elevation changes, stepped walls, and transitions that all had to resolve to a level top of wall for the framers.
Jobs like this are why layout is a craft. Every step and shelf was set from the drawings, formed to hold, and poured in a sequence that kept the whole system true.
